What belongs in a football note
A movement, a scoreline and a programme answer different questions. Our watching exercises distinguish a visible sequence from a possible explanation; they do not claim knowledge of a manager’s instructions. A programme is a dated object, not proof that every advertised arrangement took place.
The North Touchline Editorial is the paper’s publication byline. It is not an invented match correspondent. We label constructed passages of play and original diagrams, and do not publish them as eyewitness reports.
